Remembering Christian Rojas
Who Christian Was
Christian Rojas was a computer programmer from Quesada, Costa Rica who came to the Philadelphia area to build a career and a better life for the people he loved. Friends remember him as sweet and generous, the kind of person who showed up when someone needed help. He was deeply devoted to his family and sent much of what he earned home to them.
Christian was getting ready to travel to Louisiana to meet a friend for a job interview, a chance to better himself. Heather Lavelle, his former girlfriend, knew he might be carrying cash, supposing he was possibly going to bring it back home to his family in Costa Rica.
The Case Against Heather Lavelle and James Savage
In late August 2005, Christian was killed in his apartment in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, after trying to help Lavelle. In June 2006, Lavelle and James Savage pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and were sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Bensalem Police Detective Chris McMullin purports to have been one of the lead detectives on Christian's case. It is the belief of Christian's friends that two other detectives served more as the lead investigators. McMullin has since appeared in numerous tacky television shows about this murder, and even seems to have more recently written a book, in an effort to cash in on Christian's tragic death. We believe that retelling Christian's death as television entertainment is tasteless, and that no one should benefit from another family's tragedy.
In the years since, Lavelle has spoken publicly about her own redemption without naming Christian or seeming to take accountability, or without seeming to humanize Christian as a person who never deserved this. This site exists so that his name is remembered, in a way that promotes a legacy of a friend and a devoted son.
This site also exists to make people aware that the subsequent inclusion of Christian's story of his tragic murder has been used by TV companies for entertainment. In essence, we want to make people aware that this entertainment is tasteless and harmful in re-victimizing the families and loved ones of Christian, and the public should think twice about considering these types of stories as a means of entertainment.
